Horse Rescue ~

Horses come to HAA for various reasons. HAA is here to help horses that have been abandoned or abused. Most of the time the horses that we rescue are injured or malnurished.

HAA receives calls from concerned citizens regarding horses that seem to be too skinny, or their hooves are too long.  If you see a horse in need, call your local Animal Control Officer. Let people know that it's not okay to abuse a horse.
Encourage your local humane society to interact with Hooves and Angels, Inc., so they become familiar with our work and capabilities.
Encourage friends and neighbors to think responsibly when purchasing a horse. Be sure they understand the cost and commitment of caring for a horse.  Be an advocate for horses in need.
Horses offer unique friendship, and with a little time and care with kindness, they can learn that humans can be friends also.

This is Sadie ~ An Arabian Mare that was abandoned in a field when her owner left the property. Neighbors gave her hay every once in a while, but had no idea what else to do. Sadie's hooves were so long, they resembled "flippers". Her hooves were over grown by approximately 12 inches. This amount of growth would normally take about 3 years with no hoof care. It was plain to see that Sadie had been neglected for a long time. She could not even walk without help, so we physically lifted her legs for her.

Sadie's future was not certain. We knew she probably would not ever be able to walk again. Due to this, in  cases such as Sadie's, some might think the best option would be euthanasia. HAA is determined to give every horse a fair chance to be its best and to a live a long and healthy life. With some extensive and repetative hoof care, Sadie now walks and runs to play, and welcomes human contact.

HAA rescued Dallas when he was abandoned by his owners and left with no food, and an old trash can with garbage polluted water. He also showed signs of abuse. Dallas had a significant injury to his rear leg that was swollen to 3 times the normal size. His leg was riddled with infection and was extremely painful. Dallas was determined to overcome his challenge and was learning to walk on only 3 legs. We treated his injuries, and gave him much needed groceries. After physical therapy and a lot of love, Dallas walks normal without any permanent physical impairment.
